Escape Purgatory Finished Piece

This is my final piece. I used photo shop to create my movie poster and followed the steps I used for my expendable a poster however I did put a dark shadow and made the characters and the house in the background black and white so that it will fit in with my propsal. I think this piece was succsessful because I tried to make it look as supernatural as I can and tried to make it look like a realistic movie poster keeping it in line with my criteria and as well as creating a modern which went perfectly. I feel my photoshop skills have improved and I'm happy with the finished product. In the future I think I will use my own backgrounds to make it look more professional.

Analysis of Supernatural Horror

James Wan 2013 "The Conjuring"

 The conjuring film is a supernatural horror you can tell this because of the shadow of someone hanging from the tree as well as how the house in the background looks rather old-fashioned. The rope hanging from the tree represents a historic background and also suggest there was an disturbing incident that had occurred in the previous . The colours are very greyish and has a smokey effect for a more ghostly look this best suits the film poster as it fits in well with the genre.

Daniel Stamm 2010 "The Last Exorcism"

This poster is very straight forward as it uses what looks to be a possessed girl that seems to be in some distress and her behaviour looks abnormal as if her body has been taken over by a supernatural spirit. The distressed woman is in the corner of the ceiling which indicates she's in no controll of her body which implies some kind of demon related possession. The image quality looks very sharp and is in a black and white which gives it a gothic look.

James Wan 2010 "Insidious"

The house in the background seems like an average looking suburbia house but the sky behind it in which makes the house look peculiar shows that something had will happen at the house or in which involves the house. The child's eyes look like they have been scratched out which indicates that the child is the main target a demon phenomenon wants and that they child may be possessed which fits the genre of a supernatural horror.

Creative Media Production Project- Movie Proposal

Format & Medium: I will be creating a supernatural horror film poster. It will be A4 sized and is a print movie poster, this will be used in magazines for example, "Total Film".

Sector: The purpose of the movie poster is to advertise "Escape Purgatory" in as many different magazines as possible to that it will appeal to my target audience, this is a part of film marketing. This method is another way of making my film more noticed and that way my audience will go and watch the film. 

Working Title: Escape Purgatory

Genre: Supernatural horror is a sub-genre which include ghosts, demons etc its most popular when creating a horror film so I have decided to use this genre and created an analysis to explore the existing supernatural horror films. 

Intended Audience & Age: My target audience will be aimed both genders (Male/Female) at the age of 18+. The reason for this is because the film is a supernatural horror that anyone under the age 18 may not be able to cope with any unpleasant scenes that may occur on my movie poster.

Summary of content: "Escape Purgatory" will be based at an isolated old fashioned bed & breakfast called the Mountain Meadow near a lake. The B&B is 25 miles away from the city and an average newlywed couple plan there honeymoon a 3 day trip to the Mountain Meadow, as they get to the lake set B&B they meet the owners of the place, however the wife notices that their is something rather unusual about the couple. As the day went the newlyweds begin to sleep the day off and experience some discomforting supernatural events which take them into a non-existing dimension formally known as "purgatory" which makes them believe they're dead and they are lead by the devil himself. The devil tests the couple by trying to see if they survive different obstacles, but this leaves only one of the newlyweds fighting for their real life.    

Summary of style: I would like my movie poster to look quite mysterious but also keep in line with the supernatural horror genre. I want the style of my font to look quite gothic but also old-fashioned, so that way it'll have some sort of connection with the storyline. In some way I want my movie poster make the audience feel a little bit of fear and be nervous to watch my film so i will do this by make

Legal & ethical considerations: I will need to make sure that any of my iconography that has a brand name will have permission to appear in my film. i will also make sure that the BBFC age restriction is most definitely 18+ as it isn't  suitable for ages any younger due to any violent scenes or death related scenes.

Illustrator

This is a photo of the essex model David Gandy, in which I have turned into a cartoon using the Illustrator software. First of all I had to use the pen tool to make point around the face and then used the fill tool to get the exact natural colour, I then continued to do this process for the hair, blazer, shirt, tie, and facial features.

This technique is easy to do and very straightforward, however I did have difficulty trying to make the pupils round so first of all you had to make 4 points around the pupil that made a diamond and then add the handle tool so you can make you straight lines more rounded and eventually after that the finished product should be round.

Typefaces

Horror:

This typeface fits in with the “Horror” genre, as it has the effect of a gory, gruesome and thrilling. The film that this typeface fits in with is Tom Six’s 2010, “Human Centipede” as on the movie poster it has the handprints of the killer’s victims and the text has the similar handprints in the typeface.

Romance:

This typeface fits in with the “Romance” genre because it has the love heart shape for the “O” and has small heart serifs at the end of each letter. This typeface best suits Nick Cassavetes’ 2004 film “The Notebook” because the shape of the writing is almost as if someone has hand written it and in the film one of the characters rights her life story in a notebook.

  Action:

The typeface above suits the genre “Action” because the letters are on different levels and are on different balances, which make sense of “action” films. This typeface best suits the Xavier Gens 2007 film “Hitman” which has many scenes of action.

Sci-Fi:

The sci-fi above best suits the “Sci-Fi” genre because it looks futuristic, as it is bold and square shaped letters. This sits in with the Paul W.S. Anderson’s 2004 film “Alien Vs. Predator” because of the futuristic scenery’s included in it.

This typeface best suits the genre “Historical Drama” as it is the “Olde English” in which represents the old fashion, which gives the title a vintage look.

Wonka Babies

Hello Fellow Viewers, 

   I'm gonna tell you just how exactly I changed the typeface above to be come a logo the  Futura Condense Extra Bold to some thing a little bit more creative as I'm going to make a movie title to the new film "Wonka Babies"--a made up film sequel to Roahl Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".

 I used the software Adobe Illustrator to create my new "Wonka Babies" logo, however it isn't exactly a new logo its the same as the one above but more importantly it looks as good as new! First thing I did was changed the colours of each letter so that they would each be sort of individual to the other letters and also that the text will represent all the different coloured sweets you can get when you go to the "Chocolate Factory" almost the they were varieties.

 I then began to change the look of the text by moving the angles of each corner of the letter to change the shape to make it similar to the "Willy Wonka" original logo, whilst also changing the colours of each letter to different bright colours for a more childish look. I then rotated each letter in the opposite direction from each other and put them on different height levels to give them a bouncing effect. After doing that I added some curved lines to the corner of each letter to make the bouncing effect more realistic.
